What is SmartStream ?
SmartStream is the complete tool for anyone to manage internet, bandwidth and network security. It has features like Firewall, Anti-virus, Anti spam, traffic management by IP addresses, Ports, Packages and more.
How does SmartStream help me in saving costs for my Internet connectivity management.
It has rich features in terms of managing a typical IT setup of small and growing organization. It is a Unix based setup. It saves the cost of owning an Operating System.
Why does an enterprise need SmartStream as a solution ?
To provide a managed network solution resulting in optimal use of resources ( bandwidth & support ) for providing Internet connectivity.
- Internet usage is optimized by stopping unwanted traffic from customer premises.

Is SmartStream Compatible with every Operating System ?
SmartStream comes bundled with it’s own Operating System.
Do we need a router for SmartStream setup ?
In case we have ethernet drop we do not need the router.
Is there any need to change in existing network to install SmartStream ?
No, you just have to implement it on your gateway level.
Is there any bandwidth limit for termination in SmartStream ?
Bandwidth limitation depends upon the hardware used..
SmartStream is available in software format or it have hardware (appliance) format too ?
SmartStream is available in software format. Customer can buy recommended hardware directly from system vendors.
Is SmartStream is capable to work as a Firewall ?
Yes, SmartStream has the features of Firewall.
Can we install any other software on the same machine on which SmartStream is already installed ?
No, SmartStream is installed on a dedicated machine, it doesn’t allow any other application installed on the same.
How many ISPs (WAN links ) will be supported by SmartStream ?
We are supporting two ISPs.
Is the bandwidth aggregation possible ?
Yes. Please contact our pre-sales for more details.
Do we have link (ISP) failover support in case of multiple ISPs ?
Yes, we have link failover configuration in case of multiple ISPs.
Do I need Proxy server for Internet sharing with SmartStream ?
No. Since SmartStream itself has proxy server.
How do the users connect to the internet?
User launches browser to login to the SmartStream using a username and password.
General / Admin FAQ.s
How can I upgrade User license of SmartStream?
It depends on the licensing option – unlimited version for a product does not require upgrade for the same machine. In case of limited licensing SmartStream License is based on number of maximum users active on the SmartStream server. You can upgrade the user license of SmartStream by obtaining a new Product ID and Unique ID.
How do I change SmartStream Console Password?
Please refer to SmartStream Console Guide provided with SmartStream for changing Console password.
How do I take Backup of Current Policies, User Profile?
Steps to take Backup of Current Policies: -
Log on to SmartStream Management Screen
Log on to SmartStream Management Screen
- Select Tools > Backup > configure Backup >Download
- Click on Download button in System Data Backup to Date in order to take Backup of current Policies and User Profile.
- System Data Backup will be include the Backup of Logs
- Save the Backup file
Which Web browser support Internet access from Client machines Through SmartStream?
You can access Web from any of the web browsers supporting the
HTTP protocol. But to access the SmartStream GUI only Internet
Explorer 5.5 or above are supported.
Which are the different User Types or Security Levels? What is the significance of each User Type?
SmartStream supports seven levels of user security: -
- Administrator
- Reseller
- Billing
- Support
- User
By default, Administrator group user has the right to create, update, and delete the required details.
Administrator can create administrator level Users.
Reseller user level will have privilege to view SmartStream Management only. No updating and deleting is, permitted at operator privilege by default, the “Zone Manager” group User has the right to create, view and update the information of users belonging to the zone assigned to him. Delete action will not be available to the user belonging to “Zone Manager” group.
I have changed the Message to be displayed for one of the Messages keys from System Management->Messages. When will this newly given message comes into effect?
The changes in newly given Message will come into effect dynamically.
What is KB in Data Transfer Bandwidth?
KB is short form of “Kilo Bytes”. When used to describe data storage. “Kbps” represents “Kilo Bytes per Second” (1 kilobyte=8 kilo bits) of Data Transfer. While Kbit means, kilo bits per second.
When will the change in User Based Bandwidth Policy come into effect?
Change in User Based Bandwidth Policy will come into effect
Dynamically (immediately).
When will the change in IP Based Bandwidth Policy come into effect?
Change in IP Based Bandwidth Policy will come into effect dynamically
(Immediately).
When will the change in Pool Based Bandwidth Policy come into effect?
Changes in “Pool Based Bandwidth Policy” will come into effect only
After restarting the Management Services from Console. Refer to Console Guide to restart the Management Services.
